Chan/Chaska football games rescheduled

Empty stadium at night

Last night, the Eastern Carver County School District announced the cancellation of the Chanhassen-Chaska varsity football game, scheduled for the evening of Friday, October 16, and the Chanhassen-Chaska junior varsity game on Saturday, October 17. The 9th grade football game on Thursday, October 15, will continue as scheduled. The cancellation was necessitated by a COVID-19-related quarantine impacting the Chanhassen football program.

“I am devastated for our student athletes,” ECCS Superintendent Lisa Sayles-Adams said. “This is an important game for our entire community, and we don’t take this cancellation lightly.  I am thrilled to share, however, that thanks to the quick work of our athletic directors we have been able to reschedule the varsity game for Friday, October 30th, at Chanhassen. We are truly excited to be able to provide this game experience for the student-athletes, coaches, and communities of Eastern Carver County Schools. This game opportunity was only possible through the partnership and collaboration with both Hopkins High School and Robbinsdale Armstrong High School administration. ”

Spectator restrictions remain in place, and students, families, and community members are reminded that the game will be live-streamed. Information on how to access that feed is available here: https://sites.google.com/isd112.org/chanhassen-varsity-rosters/home. Additional sub-varsity matchups between Chanhassen and Chaska will also be coordinated for the week of October 26th.

“As a community, we all want our kids safe, healthy, and in school,” Sayles-Adams continued. “We want them to have the opportunity to participate in athletics and activities. In order to do that, we need the support of our entire community to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Please mask up, practice physical distancing whenever possible, wash your hands, and take care of yourselves.”

Cases both within Carver County and statewide are on the rise. Parents are reminded to closely monitor children for symptoms, keep them home when ill, and while awaiting test results.
