Community Classroom
Community Classroom (CC) is an umbrella term for all the ways that students work toward high school credit outside of high school walls.
Students are eligible for CC if they are enrolled in post-secondary enrollment options (PSEO), Northern Star Online (NSO) or other online providers, blended learning classes, online personal wellness, online English 12, senior study hall, classes at the other high school, or other off-campus courses (SW Metro co-op, work-experience, etc.).
Community Classroom Permission
Students are placed in the Community Classroom so they can leave the building and return as needed, per their schedule. This is done manually at the start of each semester. Students use their student IDs to check in and out of the high school. Confirmation is made with caregivers before students are placed in CC. Students cannot use CC until confirmation is gained from caregivers each semester.
Blended Class Expectations
Blended class teachers may allow students to use a blended classroom for their class period if it fits the instruction for the day and when the student is meeting their criteria to do so (no missing work, etc.). Blended classes are in-person on all block days and at least one of the other three days of the week (note: all in-person classes meet four times a week).
Online Class Expectations
Students in an ECCS online class are only expected to be in-person one day/week. Because of this, teachers of online classes use CC more than teachers of blended classes.
WIN Periods/Block Day Expectations
Students in Community Classroom are allowed to leave the school during WIN time provided that they meet the following criteria:
- Their caregiver has allowed them to do so
- All of their grades are at C- or higher
- Teachers have not preassigned the student to a WIN session
- They did not have any unexcused absences the previous week
CC during WIN may be restricted if a student does not meet the above criteria. School administration has the discretion at any time to restrict CC access during WIN periods.
