Featured this year are the spectacular talents of guest performer Russ Peterson (saxophone). Mr. Peterson has performed with some of the most notable artists in the business:  Phil Woods, Manhattan Transfer, Dave Weckle, Peter Erskin, Henry Mancini, Gregg Bissonette, Ray Charles, Wayne Newton, Bill Watrous, Gregg Field, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Maureen McGovern, Samuel Sanders, The Eroica Trio, Will Kennedy, Frankie Avalon, Tommy Igoe, Nick Brignola, Zoro, Ignacio Berroa, Terri Lyne Carrington, and the Four Tops.

Peterson will double as clinician for the events and activities. The highlight of the weekend will be the Jazz Festival Finale Concert on Saturday, February 4 at 7:00 pm in the Chanhassen High School Theater. This culminating event will feature the student ensembles from Chaska Middle School East, Chaska Middle School West, and Pioneer Ridge Middle School, as well as Chanhassen and Chaska High Schools. The most anticipated performance of the night promises to be that of the ECCS All-Star Big Band.  It is with this powerhouse of local adult talent that the community will hear showcased the exceptional musicianship of this year’s Jazz Festival guest performer Russ Peterson.

As in previous years, the festival format provides tremendous opportunities for the students of Eastern Carver County Schools. The event kicks off Friday morning with two vibrant and educational concerts for all 800+ of the district’s fifth graders, featuring favorite tunes of the Swing Era. Several middle and high school students will attend these concerts as well. The festival continues throughout the rest of the day and into Saturday, with performances by all of the district’s jazz ensembles.
